Chai-spiced Old Fashioned cocktail

Chai-Spiced Old Fashioned

Warm, aromatic, and perfect for cooler months. This one uses a homemade chai syrup instead of plain simple syrup, so the spice is baked into the sweetness itself.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • ½ oz chai syrup recipe below
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • cinnamon stick and orange peel for garnish

Instructions

  • Stir rye, chai syrup, and bitters with ice until chilled. Strain over one large cube. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a wide orange peel, expressed over the top before dropping in.

Notes

Chai Syrup     Steep 4 chai tea bags (or 2 tbsp loose chai blend) in 1 cup of hot simple syrup (1:1 sugar and water, brought just to a simmer) for 10 minutes. Strain and let cool. Keeps in the fridge for up to two weeks.
