Brown butter Old Fashioned cocktail

Brown Butter Old Fashioned

A cold-weather favorite with rich, almost dessert-like character. Brown butter adds a warm, nutty depth that transforms bourbon into something remarkably smooth and indulgent.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon brown butter-washed (recipe below)
  • ¼ oz maple or demerara syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • orange peel for garnish

Instructions

  • Stir the washed bourbon, syrup, and bitters with ice until chilled. Strain over a large ice cube and finish with an expressed orange peel.

Notes

Brown Butter Wash   Melt 4 tbsp of butter in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Let cool slightly, then stir into a 750ml bottle of bourbon. Let sit at room temperature for 4 hours, then freeze overnight. Strain off the solidified fat through a coffee filter.
